BLACK FRIDAY LAPTOP BUYING GUIDE

Here are top technical tips on what to look for when buying a Black Friday laptop.

MEMORY

Memory can mean two different things. It can mean how much storage you have and how much RAM you have. Imagine a desk is your computer. You have lots of charts, folders or bits of paper and you put them on your desk as you are working on them. The RAM, which stands for random access memory, basically means how big your desk is. For example, you have may have five or six things you are working on at any one time, the bigger the desk, the less cluttered it will become. It means the larger the RAM the more things you can do. Your storage memory is slightly different. This is like the filing cabinet where you keep all your files. You cannot have all your files out at any one time, because that would just be confusing, so you have your filing cabinet. As you need to do different bits of work, your computer goes off gets the file and brings it back to the desk.

PROCESSORS

There are lots of different types of processers and different types of speed. A good rule of thumb is the higher the number the better. Some are dual core, some quad core, which just means there is effectively more than one person. Dual core would be like two people standing around the table, quad core four people standing at a table. They could be doing lots of different tasks but all using the same area at the same time. As you increase the amount of memory, size, realm or all of these things, you are going to see an increase in price.

LAPTOP USE

You really have to ask yourself the question, what am I going to be using my laptop for? If you are going to be be video editing or 3D modelling something you will need a lot more RAM, a lot faster processor speed to make that work. If you know you are just going to be a little bit online, maybe writing some word documents, you can actually get away with having a much cheaper laptop. If you want a game on it that is a whole different thing. This is where the latest generation of Intel really come into play because you really do need super-fast processing speeds. You will also require a lot of RAM to run this because you are dealing with a lot of data moving very quickly. The computer needs to be up to speed to be able to carry it out. I hope that’s cleared up a little bit of the confusion over what all the different terminology.
